A doctoral graduate at the University of Toronto, Canada, has had a wide range of experiences that bridges Kindergarten to the University level of teaching. Dr. Riley has been a Classroom Teacher, Principal and a Special Education Consultant and Psychologist for private and educational institutes. A leader in educational change, he was instrumental in providing the stewardship for reviewing and the renewal of the Early Childhood Education program at Fanshawe Community College in Canada. As Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario, he supervised and taught graduate students in their educational teaching program; as well as doing research and writing on childhood development and parent education. Prior to coming to Singapore he did volunteer work in Kenya in the area of children’s health and education.

Ms. Cynthia Lee, Principal

Schoolhouse By The Bay Principal, Ms. Cynthia Lee graduated from Edith Cowan University, Australia with a Degree in Early Childhood Education. With a dedicated interest in the early childhood field, Ms. Cynthia brings with her over six years of experience.  Ms. Cynthia has previously been a classroom teacher, ran a childcare, as well, managed the operations at The Learning Ladder Bukit Timah and Schoolhouse By The Bay branches in 2002 and 2003 respectively.  As Principal, Ms. Cynthia’s goal is to see through the development and strengthening of the partnership between parents, children and teachers at Schoolhouse – critical elements in creating an educational environment that fosters a “love for learning” and a commitment to life-long learning.

Ms Michelle Loi, Mandarin Programme Co-ordinator,  Schoolhouse By The Bay

Ms Michelle was an English pre-school teacher with the People’s Association for 4 years.  She was then appointed as the Personal Assistant to Deputy Director and Assistant Director (Programme) of People’s Association.  With a dedicated interest in the early childhood field, she resigned from her duty as a Personal Assistant and continues her teaching interest with The Learning Ladder Highgate in 2000.  She even took up the challenge to teach Mandarin.  Ms Michelle obtained her Certificate in Administration and Management and Diploma in Preschool Teaching from National Institute of Singapore in 1997 and 1998 respectively.  She continued to pursue and had graduated from University of Melbourne in Bachelor in Early Childhood Studies in 2005.  In 2006, she was appointed as the Mandarin Progamme Co-ordinator of Schoolhouse by the Bay.

Suzanne Smith ,Academic Co-ordinator, Schoolhouse By The Bay

Graduated from the University of Newcastle, Australia in 2002 with a Bachelor of Teaching and a Bachelor of Social Science Degree whose major was in  Early Childhood.  Suzanne taught for the last 5 years in a variety of schools were she took on many different roles. She has been a classroom teacher, a special education teacher and a support teacher for students needing additional literacy and numeracy programs.  Suzanne has also written a number of programs for students who have English as a second language.  She has developed speech and drama programs and has been involved in a number of creative and performing arts productions both in schools and at a regional level.  In 2003 / 2004 she spent six months completing volunteer work in India, providing informal education programs in a non-government organisation and facilitating a variety of programs for international visitors.  Through her involvement in volunteer organizations, she has developed a number of community education programs for young girls and women both in Australia and overseas.
